Meet Linen & Thyme
Linen & Thyme...
...are south-coast childhood friends Caroline and Suzie. Both attending Art College after school, Caroline then gained inspiration through travel whilst Suzie built a career in the hospitality industry. We both felt a strong pull back to our creative roots; Caroline drew on her experiences to enhance her knowledge of textiles whilst Suzie re-established her passion for Art & Design.
As we raised our families, over long beach walks, hot coffees (and perhaps a glass of wine or two!), we dreamed of one day combining our skills and creating a business which reflected our joint love of art and design, natural fabrics and finishes and comfortable, welcoming homes....
...and finally in 2016, in a moment of bravery (or madness) Linen & Thyme was formed.
Natural textiles, particularly Linen, have always been our passion.
Linen fabric is made from the fibres that grow in the stalks of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum) one of the world's oldest cultivated plants. Flax is an annual plant, flowering in June before being harvested at the perfect time in August to ensure fibres are long and flexible and perfect for further processing, a lengthy and complicated business but one which we believe is well worth the effort!
Linen is a wonderfully soft and versatile textile, produced in an endless collection of gorgeous colours, designs, weaves and weights meaning it is equally suitable for clothing and soft-furnishings. It is light and absorbent and, unlike many fabrics, is easy to care for, actually improving in softness and character with each wear and wash. At Linen & Thyme, we use pure linen and linen/cotton blend fabrics to design and create our range of practical yet beautiful homeware and gifts. We put together coordinating designs and colours, sometimes complimenting our pieces with simple linen applique designs, unique to Linen & Thyme.
Finally, and available to view at The Chesapeake Mill, Wickham and Breezes, Hill head, Hampshire, we source and carefully select pieces that work easily alongside our own designs; beautiful throws, willow ware, artisan ceramics and other exciting goodies for your home or to give as gifts.
